Patrick Bamford and Kike scored the goals as Middlesbrough defeated Manchester City 2-0 in the FA Cup fourth round at the Etihad on Saturday.

In a first half that the home side dominated, Boro goalkeeper Tomas Mejias made a couple of outstanding saves, the first from a shot from Sergio Aguero before an even better save from James Milner’s drive.

Mejias then made another stop at the start of the second half, this time from Stevan Jovetic’s header before the away side took the lead in the 53rd minute after a mistake by Fernando presented the ball to Bamford and he bundled the ball home.

It was almost 2-0 not long after when Lee Tomlin found some space in the area but his right-footed shot cannoned back off the post with Willy Caballero beaten in the City goal.

The closest the home side got to an equaliser was when substitute Frank Lampard struck the inside of the post with a deflected effort not long before the Championship side broke away through Bamford, who found Kike and he slid the ball home to seal a famous cup shock at the expense of Manuel Pellegrini’s Premier League champions.
