Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has criticised the supporters who lambasted manager Arsene Wenger following the side’s shock defeat at Stoke City in December, describing their actions as “out of order”.

The Gunners boss was the victim of plenty verbal abuse upon boarding the train to depart Stoke-on-Trent following his side’s 3-2 loss at the Britannia Stadium last year.

And while former Arsenal striker Henry – the club’s all-time record scorer – admits fans have every right to air their frustrations, the Frenchman believes they went too far on this particular occasion.

“I thought it was a joke. You can be upset, I totally understand that. But when I saw what happened at Stoke I was like, ‘that’s totally unnecessary’,” said the former Barcelona forward.

“Fans do have a voice, I totally understand that, but what I saw after the Stoke City game was out of order.
“You can express that you are upset, but to do it in that way was a bit too much.

“But in the game at the moment, unfortunately that’s the way it is.”
Arsenal did manage a response to their defeat at the Britannia as they exacted their revenge in the return fixture at the Emirates Stadium last weekend, where an Alexis Sanchez brace inspired a 3-0 win.
