The Roja coach was certain the world and European champions would have to face the Oranje, but feels the onerous challenge will be good for his squad’s mentality, Spain coach Vicente Del Bosque was unsurprised when his side was drawn against the Netherlands in
Group B, claiming he was sure he would face the Dutch side at the 2014 World Cup.
La Roja must also tackle Chile and Australia, with the runners up of the group likely to face Group A
favourites Brazil, something the 62-year-old is hoping to avoid.
“I said we would have to face the Netherlands and I was right,” Del Bosque told Cuatro . “They
[Netherlands] have changed, but they still have players like Robben, Van Persie and Van der Vaart.
“It’s just a draw. I wouldn’t say we’re in the ‘group of death’ but it’s going to be difficult – we have to define it as complicated.
“Brazil will probably finish atop their group so we must do well. We have to be ready from the first day and this will be good for our mentality.”
Regarding the other teams in Group B, Del Bosque is taking nothing for granted.
“Chile are an uncomfortable side to face,” he warned. “They play high=pressure football and they have experienced players.
“Australia won’t be easy, either.”
