The Gunners are yet to spend a penny this summer with their only recruitment being the arrival of Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer.
They’ve, meanwhile, had two bids for Uruguay international Luis Suarez rejected by Liverpool and are keen to sign Swansea striker, Michu, as they look set to miss out on Bayern midfielder Gustavo, who is on his way to Wolfsburg.
“Ideally you would want to be quicker, but to finalise transfer you need agreement of three parties,” the reigning longest-serving Premier League coach told Arsenal’s website.
“You could see that our main rivals, it is not easy. You look at us, Chelsea and Manchester United- It’s difficult to find quality players to strengthen the team and squad because there is a shortage of top players who are available.
“It’s impossible to give you a number. The first request is quality to play for Arsenal Football Club.
“After the number comes in, yes we like two or three players, if possible more. But we won’t compromise on the quality of the players.”
Arsenal hosts Aston Villa at the Emirate Stadium on Saturday as the manager also confirmed that Mikel Arteta has joined the likes of club captain Thomas Vermaelen, Nacho Monreal and Abou Diaby on the injury list.
The good news is that there is no suggestion Bacary Sagna will miss out after midweek scare as Aaron Ramsey is available after missing Wales games against Republic of Ireland.
