The Ibadan office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday June 8, 2018 arraigned the duo of Tokunbo Oguntayo and Ajakaiye Ayodele before Hon. Justice A. N. Akintola of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, on a 6-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining  under false pretense and stealing. The defendants however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

In view of their plea, prosecution counsel Harrison Ibekwute prayed the court for a trial date and for the defendants to be remanded in prison custody.

However, counsel to the defendants, Biodun Azeez, informed the court that he has an application seeking the bail of both defendants. The defense’s application was however, opposed by the prosecution on the grounds that he cannot  file one application for two defendants.

Justice Akintola however, ordered the defense to do the rightful and file the applications for their bail separately.  The case is adjourned to 22 June, 2018 for trial. Meanwhile, the defendants shall be remanded at the Federal Prison, Agodi, pending when their bail applications are brought before the court.

One of the counts preferred against them reads: “That you, Tokunbo Oguntayo and Ajakaiye Ayodele on or about 2nd of November, 2015, at Ibadan within the Ibadan judicial Division of this Honourable Court, with intent to defraud obtained the sum of Two Million, Nine Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (2,950,000.00) only from Bankayode Venture Nigeria Limited by falsely pretending that it was the cost price of a truck of 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit which you purported to have secured for them and which representations you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence.
