‘Parasite’ actor Lee Sun-kyun found dead in South Korea amid drug probe as wife reportedly told police he left suicide note at home

South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, known for his role in the Oscar-winning movie “Parasite,” was found dead on Wednesday, December 27 from an apparent suicide, authorities said.

Lee, 48, was discovered unconscious inside a car beside a charcoal briquette which can cause carbon monoxide poisoning when burned in an enclosed space at a Seoul park around 10:30 a.m., South Korean Yonhap news agency reported.

The actor was reported missing earlier in the day. His manager told police that he had left home, leaving behind an apparent suicide note, the news outlet reported.

His death comes amid an investigation into his alleged illegal drug use.

Lee was questioned three times by police regarding the probe, including for a grueling 19 hours over the weekend. He was first eyed as a suspect in October, the local outlet reported.

The actor apologized for “causing immense disappointment” during the first interrogation on Oct. 28, according to Yonhap. “I am sorry for my family, who are enduring extreme pain at this moment,” he said.

He claimed he was tricked into taking drugs, including marijuana, by a hostess at a high-end bar in Seoul who then attempted to blackmail him, Yonhap reported.

He passed two drug tests during the police probe and also submitted to a polygraph test in an attempt to prove himself innocent and the hostess to be the liar in the scheme.

Lee starred as the father of a wealthy family in the thriller “Parasite,” which was released in 2019. On top of best picture at the Oscars, the acclaimed film also won in three other categories in 2020.

It was the first non-English language movie to win best picture in the Academy Awards’ 92-year history. It was also the first South Korean movie to win an Oscar.

In 2021, Lee clinched a Screen Actors Guild award for “cast in a motion picture” also for his role in “Parasite.”

He has acted in other South Korean movies like “Helpless” in 2012 and “All About My Wife” in 2014.

Lee leaves behind his wife, award-winning actress Jeon Hye-jin, and their two children.

His agency, Hodu & U Entertainment, said his funeral will be private for only family and close friends, Yonhap reported.

“We can’t express how heartbroken and sad we feel … Please refrain from spreading speculation or false information [about him],” the company said in a statement.

The bishops said that the blessing of same-sex union is against God’s law, the teachings of the church, and the law of the country.

They made this known in a statement released and signed by the President of the conference, Lucius Ugirji and the Secretary, Donayus Ogun on Wednesday.

The statement reads: “The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria assures the entire People of God that the teaching of the Catholic Church on marriage remains the same. There is, therefore, no possibility in the teaching of the Church of blessing same-sex unions and activities.

“That would go against God’s law, the teachings of the Church, the laws of our nation, and the cultural sensibilities of our people.”

The bishops clarified the Pope Francis’s remarks by saying: “The declaration seeks to clarify the different forms of blessing that can be given to persons and objects in the Catholic Church, including the possibility of blessing persons in irregular unions. Such unions include but are not limited to divorced and remarried couples whose previous marriages had not been annulled, those living in same-sex unions, those in polygamous unions, in concubinage, etc.”

“The declaration acknowledges and carefully distinguishes between ritual, liturgical, and informal blessings. While ritual or liturgical blessings are imparted according to the established norms of the Church, informal blessings refer to prayers over people who ask for them outside the liturgy or any formal declaration offers a consideration of the possibility of extending the informal blessing to all Cod’s children, irrespective their moral condition, when they ask to be blessed.

“Nevertheless, the Declaration insists that the blessing of persons in irregular unions- and never the union of itself- can only take a non-liturgical form to avoid confusion. It should not be imparted during or in connection with connection with a civil wedding ceremony or with clothing, words, and signs associated with a wedding.

“The Declaration reiterates the Catholic Church’s perennial teaching on marriage as an “exclusive, stable and indissoluble union of a man and woman, naturally open to the generation of children” and emphatically states that the Church does not have the power to impart a blessing on irregular unions.

“The Declaration also reinforces the truth about God’s mercy. For one to willingly ask for a blessing demonstrates one’s trust in God and the desire to live according to God’s commandments. Asking for God’s blessing is not dependent on how good one is. Imperfection is the reason for seeking God’s grace. Therefore, those in irregular unions are invited never to lose hope but rather to ask for God’s grace and mercy while remaining open to conversion.”

Jonathan Majors and Meagan Good Cry in Courtroom as Defense Says Actor ‘Is Innocent’ in Closing Remarks

Marvel star, Jonathan Majors and his girlfriend Meagan Good broke down in tears during the closing arguments in his New York assault trial.

The actor’s lawyers and prosecutors presented their closing arguments to a jury on Thursday, just 10 days after court proceedings commenced earlier this month in Manhattan.

Priya Chaudhry, the actor’s attorney, choked up as she delivered her last words to the jury as she pleaded with them to “end this nightmare” for her client.

“I want to end this nightmare for Jonathan now, immediately, and as quickly as possible,” the attorney said. “It’s just fake. Nothing she says makes sense. Nothing she says is medically possible,” she added, referring to his accuser and ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.

Ms Chaudry addressed directly Mr Majors’s 911 call on 25 March, when the alleged assault took place.

“His fear of what happens when a Black man in America calls 911 came true. And now we’re here,” she said.

It was this comment that prompted Mr. Majors and his woman to cry and when the attorney finished her closing arguments, she sat back down at the defence desk and the two embraced in a hug. The attorney could be seen dabbing her eyes with a tissue.

Actress Meagan Good, Mr Majors’s girlfriend who has attended court with him every day, was also seen wiping away tears.

The actor has been charged with four misdemeanour counts, including assault in the third degree with intent to cause physical injury, assault in the third degree recklessly causing physical injury, aggravated harassment in the second degree, and harassment in the second degree.

All of the charges stem from the alleged altercation the couple had in March.

The actor has denied the allegations. Ms Chaudhry, his attorney, has long claimed that Ms Jabbari was the real assailant that night.

When Assistant District Attorney Kelli Galaway spoke to the jury, she said the case was ultimately about “control, domination, manipulation, and abuse,” adding that “the defendant did not hesitate to use physical violence.”

The prosecution presented evidence that showed a pattern of disturbing behaviour from Mr Majors, including text messages and an audio recording. However, when it came to the night at the centre of the trial, the prosecution struggled to pin Ms Jabbari’s injuries on Mr Majors.

The driver who drove the couple that night said that he thought the dancer had hit Mr Majors after she discovered text messages on her phone from someone named Cleopatra, leading her to believe the actor was cheating on her.

“Oh, how I wish I was kissing you,” the message read. Ms Jabbari confronted the actor on the text and grabbed his phone to get a closer look.

While trying to get the phone back, she said Mr Majors hit her on the back of her head and twisted her arm behind her back, resulting in a fracture to her right middle finger. He also shoved her inside the stopped SUV, she said.

Naveed Sarwar, the driver, said Mr Majors was “not doing anything” and Ms Jabbari “was doing everything”.

Speaking on Thursday, Ms Galaway accused the driver, who testified for the prosecution, of being loyal to Mr Majors.

His comments, she said, revealed “him to be a biassed witness to the man who paid him.”

She continued: “This case is the people of the state of New York v Jonathan Majors. It is not Grace Jabbari versus Jonathan Majors.

“This is not a revenge plot to ruin the defendant’s life, his career, to take everything away from him.”

Keke Palmer Files to Mediate Custody Battle With Darius Jackson in Private

American actress, Keke Palmer has reportedly asked to move her restraining order hearing so she and ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson can resolve their custody issues privately after she accused him of physical and emotional abuse.

According to court documents filed on Thursday in Los Angeles, Palmer, 30, and Jackson, 29, began discussions the day prior and have agreed to continue at a mutually agreeable date’ that has not yet been determined.  The pair share a son Leodis, who is nine months.

The pair were due to meet in court over the domestic violence restraining order on December 5 – but now want the hearing postponed until they ‘resolve their issues in mediation’ per Page Six.

The court documents state the parties ‘agree that all orders contained in the Temporary Restraining Order issued on November 9, 2023, shall remain in full force and effect until the hearing’ – with a new court date yet to be determined.

Palmer was recently granted a restraining order against Jackson and sole custody of their son.

She alleged in civil court documents that she suffered physical and emotional abuse at the hands of Darius. He has denied the allegations.

This comes after Palmer’s mother, Sharon, alleged she ‘feared’ for her daughter’s life while she was dating Jackson.

While speaking about a phone call, obtained by TMZ, in which Sharon threatens to ‘put a bullet’ in Jackson’s head, the 56-year-old high school teacher explained to Radar Online that her comment was made out of concern for Keke, 30.

‘You will hear him being told to leave several times,’ Sharon told the outlet. ‘The point where I am cussing came in after 2 mins of him refusing to leave.’

Sharon also accused Jackson of ‘illegally’ recording their call, which requires consent in the state of California.

The Nope star’s mom proceeded to state that Jackson ‘does not care about the law’ and that ‘most abuser[s] don’t care about the law.’

Sharon went on to allege that Jackson ‘would not leave’ Keke’s home and ‘was not invited in.’

‘I feared for her life,’ Sharon insisted.

In text messages, obtained by TMZ, between Sharon and Jackson’s mother, Yhinyer Hubbard Jackson, who is originally from Panama, texted Sharon: ‘I have tried not to get involved in my son’s personal business, but I heard that you are going to put a bullet in my son’s head???’

‘Well, then, now, we have to involve the authorities because you don’t respect or value yourself… I will file a police report on you now,’ Yhinyer continued.

Sharon allegedly wrote back: ‘Please do not contact me with this ridiculous childish behaviour. Your son choked his own sister, deal with his anger issues. If he attacks my daughter in her own [home] where she pays the bills, he is trespassing and anything can happen so he should stay away.’

‘You should be very ashamed to have raised a man who fights women,’ she concluded.

Last month, the outlet also reported that Jackson claimed Sharon threatened to ‘put a bullet in his head’ during an altercation with her over speakerphone.

TMZ reports Sharon’s threat was made after the couple got into an argument over custody of Leo on November 5, an incident which was detailed in Keke’s restraining order filing.

Darius went to pick up his son Leo to watch football last month after informing Keke via text message of his plans, but was upset to find their son was not at her home when he arrived.

This led to an argument between Keke and Darius, and eventually, Sharon was brought into the dispute after Keke called her up.

Sharon was placed on speakerphone and allegedly began screaming and saying expletives to Darius. She also allegedly informed Darius she would put a bullet in his head, which escalated the altercation.

Darius then allegedly tried to grab Keke’s phone from her. Insiders claim this particular tussle was captured in images submitted last week as part of Keke’s restraining order. The images show them in the midst of a struggle on a couch.

The restraining order also included photos of a separate altercation from February 2022.

Insiders say Darius completely denies abusing the actress, and the sources claim police were sent to the home but did not find any probable cause to arrest him for domestic violence.

He is standing by his account and has denied the abuse allegations, according to TMZ.

The exes will meet again in court at a hearing scheduled for December 5.

Inmate Who Stabbed George Floyd’s Killer, Derek Chauvin, 22 Times In Prison Gives Reason

The inmate who stabbed former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin in prison did so 22 times, it has emerged.

Former Mexican Mafia member John Turscak, 52, stabbed Chauvin inside a Tucson federal prison and said he would’ve killed him if corrections officers had not responded so quickly, prosecutors said.

He purposefully attacked on Black Friday, Nov. 24, as a symbolic connection to the Black Lives Matter movement, according to investigators.

He is now charged with attempted murder, assault with the intent to commit murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault resulting in bodily injury.

Turscak — who is serving a 30-year sentence for crimes committed while working as an FBI informant – said he thought about stabbing the ex-cop convicted of killing black man George Floyd by kneeling on his neck during his arrest for months before the act.

Turscak attacked Chauvin with an “improvised knife” with the “intent to do bodily harm” and to “commit murder,” according to the criminal complaint.

He told investigators he chose Black Friday for his attack because it was “symbolic with the Black Lives Matter movement and the ‘Black Hand’ symbol associated with the Mexican Mafia criminal organization,” according to FBI agents who interviewed him on Nov. 26.

The attack on the disgraced police officer took place around 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 24 inside the facility’s law library. Officers used pepper spray to subdue Turscak.
Chauvin, who is serving a 22-year sentence for Floyd’s death, was taken to a hospital for “emergency medical treatment,” after employees had to perform “life-saving measures” on him.
Turscak waived his Miranda Rights for his interview with the FBI, where he denied he had intended to kill Chauvin.
A lawyer for the criminal was not listed, although he has represented himself on previous occasions.
He has since been moved into an adjacent federal facility, where he remains.

Siavash Sobhani, arespected medical doctor and long-time resident of North Virginia, has been stripped of his citizenship at the age of 61.
 

Sobhani, who was born in the US, told The Washington Post that he received a letter from the US State Department in February, following his application for a new passport, stating that his father was a diplomat at the Iranian Embassy and he should not have been awarded citizenship at the time of his birth.
 

The letter states that children born in the United States to parents enjoying diplomatic immunity do not automatically become citizens of the United States. It said Sobhani enjoyed diplomatic immunity from the jurisdiction of the US at the time of his birth and so he did not acquire citizenship.
 

But this is Sobhani’s first experience with this problem in his more than thirty years of practicing medicine. Every time his passport was reissued during his life, the US State Department again verified that he was an American citizen.
 

Siavash Sobhani, who turned 62 recently, had begun to consider retiring. He and his spouse intended to travel the world for a year in search of a neighbourhood where they could purchase a house.
 

He must now apply for lawful permanent residence and fulfil the State Department’s guidelines.
 

He disclosed to The Washington Post that he has already incurred over USD 40,000 in legal expenses and is uncertain about the potential resolution date of his case.
 

“I’m waiting for an interview, but does that mean I wait another year for an interview? Then another three years for the next step? Then another 10 years before I can travel outside of the country?” he told the Post.
 

Additionally, he has written to the senator from Virginia and his congressional representative, asking for their assistance.
 

Gerald Edward Connolly, the congressman representing Virginia’s 11th congressional district, corresponded with US Citizenship and Immigration Services on the physician’s behalf subsequent to Sobhani’s letter.
 

Siavash Sobhani’s future is uncertain because he has spoken out against the Iranian regime and is therefore unable to live there safely. In addition, he’s not sure if he’ll get a passport in time to travel to Portugal for his son’s wedding the following year.
 

The physician is unable to even see his gravely ill father-in-law, who resides in Lebanon.

Former Liverpool Star, Roberto Firmino’s Dad Dies After Heart Attack On Family Trip

José Roberto Cordeiro de Oliveira, father of the former Liverpool and Brazil striker Roberto Firmino, has died at the age of 62 after suffering a heart attack.

Jose had been on a family trip to Dubai when he fell ill. Earlier in the week, photos from the trip had been shared by family members on social media, including one which showed Jose and other family members at an amusement park.

Family members are reportedly in contact with Brazil’s embassy in the UAE in an effort to bring the 62-year-old’s body home to South America.

Brazil international forward Firmino left Liverpool last summer. He had spent eight years at the club after joining from Hoffenheim in 2015 as one of the club’s last signings before Jurgen Klopp took over as manager.

The 32-year-old scored 111 goals for the Premier League team in 362 appearances. He was part of their 2019 Champions League winning side, and scored nine league goals the following season as Klopp’s team won the Premier League for the first time.

“Not all heroes wear capes; some are called father,” Firmino wrote in his book ‘Si Senor – My Liverpool Years’. “My father, José, was my childhood hero, an inspiration and an example. A generous, serious, honest man and dedicated to his family.”

Firmino’s boyhood club, CRB, also shared a message paying tribute to the star’s father. “The Clube de Regatas Brasil deeply regrets the death of José Roberto Cordeiro de Oliveira, father of Roberto Firmino, who left us this weekend,” it began.

“He’s always been a big Galo de Campina fan and was very proud of his son being unveiled in football with the whirlpool shirt. Rest in peace, José Roberto.”

Firmino, who has 55 senior caps for Brazil, left Liverpool for Al-Ahli over the summer. He scored a hat-trick on his Saudi Pro League debut, and the team is currently in third place. Their next fixture is due to take place on Saturday.
