training

Robin van Persie completed his first full training session in a month for Manchester United on Friday but remains a major doubt for the champions’ lunchtime clash with Newcastle, Goal has learned.

The Dutchman has not featured for the Premier League champions since scoring in the 1-0 win over former club Arsenal at Old Trafford on November 10 due to a groin strain.

Van Persie will meet with club medical staff on Saturday morning to discover how his groin has reacted to participating in full contact training for the first time in four weeks.

David Moyes was guarded over when Van Persie could potentially return for the champions on Friday, and did not disclose that his striker had taken part in the session at Carrington.

“I don’t know [when Robin will return],” he said.

“We’ve been trying to get him back for a few weeks.

“But he is not ready yet. It’s his groin. It’s a sore groin injury and nothing desperately serious.

“We’ve got a few injuries. They are all making progress, some have a chance and some don’t.”

United have been frustrated in their attempts to rehabilitate Van Persie back to match fitness, with club sources admitting to Goal that it is a case of “managing” his injury as best as possible without doing further damage.

Moyes said that Van Persie had a chance of facing Everton ahead of the champions’ damaging 1-0 defeat to the Toffees on Wednesday night but Goal understands that he is not yet fully match fit.

The forward’s return to full training is a small boost for Moyes, though the Scot is likely to be forced to start against Newcastle without his two leading strikers, with Wayne Rooney suspended for the visit of Alan Pardew’s side after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against Everton.

Brazil to start with Croatia in WC

Brazil start with Croats

Host nation Brazil will kick off next summer’s World Cup finals with their opening Group A match against
Croatia in Sao Paulo on Thursday, June 12.

The favourites will be expected to finish top after they were also drawn against Mexico and Cameroon.

Holders Spain and 2010 runners-up the Netherlands were drawn together in the tough-looking Group B,
which also includes Chile and Australia.

Holland coach Louis van Gaal said: “We have to play the world champion, we have to play Australia who we have never beaten and Chile was 3-0 up recently against Colombia before it ended 3-3, so that is not a weak team.”

Germany will come up against former striker and coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who is in charge of Group G rivals USA, while Portugal and Ghana complete a tricky quartet.

“I kind of had in my stomach that we were going to get Germany,” said Klinsmann, who played in the 1990 World Cup winning team.

“Obviously it’s one of the most difficult groups in the whole draw, having Portugal with Cristiano Ronaldo and then Ghana, who has a history with the United
States. It couldn’t get any more difficult or any bigger.”

“I Was Forced To self service In Front Of Teammates” – David Beckham

0

CaptureRetired footballer David Beckham recently revealed that he was forced to self service in front of his teammates as part of his initiation into Manchester United’s youth team in 1991.

Beckham, who opened up about the incident in a documentary titled The Class of ’92, said the incident happened when he was just 16 years old. He said he was forced to stare at a calendar photo of eighties Reds soccer player Clayton Blackmore (pictured right) and pleasure himself, while his teammate watched, as part of an embarrassing hazing ritual.

“Everyone had an initiation that you had to go through on the youth team, that was one of the most uncomfortable ones. The fact that I had to look at Clayton Blackmore’s calendar and do certain things. I was embarrassed when I was saying it on camera let alone talking about it more. But it’s something that we all had to go through. It was definitely something I wouldn’t like to go through again!’ Beckham said

The Class of ’92, is a documentary about the generation of Manchester United stars who came of age two decades ago.

Liverpool ready to splash £7m on Moses

Victor-Moses

Liverpool are keen on securing a permanent deal for Chelsea winger Victor Moses, reports The Metro.

The Reds took the 22-year-old on loan from the Blues in the past transfer window and, despite the Nigerian star in-and-out of the team at Anfield, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is ready to keep him for the long term.

It’s thought the Merseyside outfit will have to pay their Premier League rivals £7m for his long term services.

Moses however, will be looking for more opportunities at the Anfield outfit before he decides to leave Chelsea for good.

The winger struggled for opportunities at Stamford Bridge and with Jose Mourinho in charge at Chelsea, it’s unlikely he will get many opportunities in the future.

And with Liverpool ready to keep him at the club, Moses may now see his long term future on Merseyside, if he is given more opportunities to shine.

Liverpool currently sit above Moses’ parent club in the table as both clubs go in search of glory this season.

Moses hope he can perform better if given more opportunities at Anfield, and he expresses his delight at playing under Rogers who has a great deal of his respect and admiration.

“He’s a great manager to play under,” Moses told reporters. “He’s very clear with the players. He knows what he wants us to do.

“There’s a winning mentality, but he also realises that if we are enjoying ourselves, we’re likely to do better. I’ve known him since I was 16 – when I was at Palace and he was at Chelsea.

“He really wanted me to go there. I said no a few times. I thought Palace was the best place for me at that time. But he never forgot about me.

“I was delighted when he came in for me again. There were a few clubs interesting in taking me, but when I heard about Liverpool, my decision was made straightaway.”
