Almost 72-hours since the 2014 FIFA World Cup ended in Brazil, one of Nigeria’s most famous football players, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, has spoken about his experience of the football showpiece.
Okocha, who was part of the Nigerian teams to the 1994, 1998 and 2002 world cups in USA, France and Korea/Japan respectively, was one of the football pundits that analysed matches of the just ended 2014 world cup on Supersport.
Since the completion of the football world cup, the former Hull City of England player had not spoken about his experience as analysts of the football tournament.
Commenting on his twitter handle few moments ago, the winner of the inaugural BBC African Footballer of the Year thanked all his fans for making his time with Supersport such a wonderful one.
He tweeted: “This is to all those of u who made my time with Super sports such a wonderful one. Thank u so much, hope u guys had fun during this FWC.”
Shortly after Nigeria’s Super Eagles were ousted from the world cup in the round of 16 by France, Okocha had gone on twitter to tweet: “Let’s take the positives from this FWC and build on it. We’ve done not as well as we wished but not that badly either. We can always improve.”
The former captain of the Nigerian team also added: “Enyeama was Nigeria’s best in the World cup. Followed by Emenike who worked selflessly, even without a goal. Just my view. Who’s your best?”
Okocha had blamed coach Stephen Keshi for Nigeria’s 0-0 draw against Iran in the first match of the world cup.
Speaking on Supersport after the match, Okocha said: “Keshi should be held responsible for the way the team played. Before the match he said African teams are tactically not disciplined and he did not bring anything new to the table.
“His changes were poor. He took out Moses and brought in Ameobi. I think that was a wrong change.
“He was not patient and I expected that he’ll leave his creative players on the pitch to create chances for the team but that was not to be”.
“We saw how Osaze came in, showed a lot of creativity and brought sparkle into the team but it was not just enough. That is the kind of thing we expected. Iran match would have been our strongest point but we missed it.”
“In as much as I want to be positive regarding the Eagles this result doesn’t give me anything to think about because we were poor”.
