Former Murder Inc. rapper Ja Rule, has been released from prison in New York after serving nearly two years for illegal gun possession and tax evasion.

The release comes two months earlier than the proposed date of July 28th, however Ja will be on house arrest until this date.

The rapper was sentenced to 28 months in prison after failing to pay $1.1m (£710,319) in taxes between 2004 and 2008. He was also sentenced to two years in prison for possessing a semi-automatic handgun, which police found hidden in his car after a concert in New York in 2007; Ja served both sentences back-to-back.

A number of artists have taken to Twitter to welcome Ja home including rapper,  N.O.R.E who wrote:

“Just spoke to @Ruleyork everybody tell him welcome home!!!”

The official RuleYork.com website posted a public service announcement which read:

“Let’s give him a warm welcome. Ja Rule’s Twitter handle is @ruleyork. Follow him and send him some welcoming tweets.”

Lets hope Ja Rule gets back in the studio to record some fresh new tunes.

Welcome home Ja!
