The former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, has denied reports that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), found and recovered $1m from one of his houses.
The money was reported to have been recovered after detectives searched his mansion in Maitama.
A detective at the EFCC, was to have said: “We have seized several properties belonging to Badeh. A few days ago, we returned to the mansion located at 6, Ogun River Street, Maitama.
“In the presence of several witnesses, including neighbours, we searched the house and recovered $1m in cash. The money has been lodged as evidence.”
But a counsel to the former Defence chief, Samuel O. Zibri, SAN, released a statement, denying the reports on behalf of Badeh. The statement reads:
“The said publication is not only malicious but wicked. It is totally false and smacks of media campaign of calumny against the person of Air Marshal Alex. A Badeh (rtd).
“The 10-count charge against our client along with the proof of evidence in the Federal High Court are public documents and can be accessed by the general public.
“There is no such allegation and we challenge the faceless EFCC (Economic and Financial Crimes Commission) official to substantiate his claim. The trial has commenced and as a law-abiding citizen, our client will defend himself in accordance with the law.”
