When news broke in March 2015 that HKN star Davido had impregnated an older lover, Sophie Momodu, little did we know he was on his way to becoming in-laws with one of Nigeria’s foremost celebrity journalists, Dele Momodu.
This much was revealed by the Ovation magazine publisher when he posted photos from Sophie’s baby shower which Davido also attended.
On Friday, May 15, 2015, Davido unofficially announced the birth of his first child on social media when he shared a photo of a hand, holding a baby accompanied with the caption: ‘God is Great, New life, New beginnings, New Album, It’s our year’.
At this point, the social media went agog with several theories and unconfirmed reports about the baby’s paternity and if truly Davido would accept responsibility for the child.
Davido and his team were in Atlanta when the news broke and could not be immediately reached for comments. NET however reached out to his camp on the night of Saturday, May 16, 2015.
Speaking through an aide, the pop star told NET that neither he nor his elder sister, Sharon Adeleke (who is equally pregnant) has welcomed a child. ‘Bloggers are just confused, Davido doesn’t have a child yet; his sister is still pregnant too. Davido simply put up a baby’s hand to signify a new beginning and it’s causing wahala’, he said in a chat with our correspondent.
Further investigations have however revealed otherwise. It has been discovered that the photo posted by Davido was a repost of Sophie Momodu’s picture on the same day, which indicated a connection between both parties.
When news of Davido’s affair with Sophie broke in March, the pop star confirmed knowing Sophie but denied the pregnancy, saying: ‘People like to talk, the fact that the girl is pregnant doesn’t mean that Davido is the one responsible. Anyway, we both know it’s not today that we’ve been having all these pregnancy allegations for Davido. The truth is Davido sure knows the girl, but they are not as close as they used to be so I really can’t tell, and if she comes tomorrow and says Davido is the father of her baby or Davido got her pregnant, then we’ll demand a DNA test’.
Well, Dele Momodu finally put to rest further doubts when he shared photos from Sophie Momodu’s baby shower which Davido also attended.
He also confirmed Sophie as his cousin and officially congratulated the young lovers on the arrival of their bundle of joy, saying: ‘Warmest congratulations to Mr. David Adeleke DAVIDO and my cousin, SOPHIE MOMODU on the birth of your beautiful daughter.’
At the moment, Davido is still out of the country and yet to make any official statement about the child, but at this point it’s in order to officially congratulate the BET award winner on the arrival of his first child.
