Muhammadu-Buhari-(1)

Mr. Buhari, who was Nigeria’s military dictator from December 31, 1983 to August 27, 1985, will be running for the Nigerian presidency for the fourth time since the current democratic dispensation began in 1999.

A former member of the All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP) and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Mr. Buhari is now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

A source close to the retired general told SaharaReporters that Mr. Buhari had been consulting with his political associates and had decided to contest once more for the presidency. The source added that the former general’s team had concluded plans for his formal declaration on October 8 at the Eagle Square in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Should Mr. Buhari declare as his associate indicated, he will be the second APC member to indicate an interest in running in the presidential race. Yesterday, Abubakar Atiku, who served as vice president during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, announced that he would seek the office of president. Mr. Atiku said he had decided to run in order to fix Nigeria.

Our source added that Mr. Buhari had planned to declare his intention to run for the presidential office a few weeks ago, but had to delay the announcement because of a trip to Europe.

The former general was born on December 17, 1942.
