The Super Eagles maintain their 43rd position in the world and ninth in the Confederation of African Football Zone, as there are no changes to the top 45 countries in the ranking.

Germany maintaining their No. 1 status way ahead of Argentina and Colombia, while Bahrain are the biggest gainers courtesy of their wins over Saudi Arabia and Jordan, moving up 12 places to 110th in the process. Lebanon (122nd, up 4) and Vietnam (133rd, up 4) are the only teams to have climbed more than three places.

The Faroe Islands have attained their highest-ever ranking of 103rd since the world football rating was introduced in 1993.

Nigeria have missed out on chances to defend their continental title in Equatorial Guinea later this month. Subsequent movement is to be expected in the February edition but with the three-time African champions expected to take on Afcon 2015-bound Cote d’Ivoire (28th in the world, 3rd in Africa) and 108th-placed Sudan next week, the coach Daniel Amokachi-tutored side could offset any drastic fall.

In total, 845 matches were played in 2014 – a record for a FIFA World Cup year.

The Eagles were rated fifth in the world in April 1994- their highest-ever ranking till date.
