Atletico Madrid on Thursday night knocked Real Madrid out of the Copa del Rey when they drew 2-2 at the Santiago Bernebeu but having won the first leg 2-0, they qualified 4-2 on aggregate.

Fernando Torres scored a minute into both halves to signify his resurrection at his boyhood club after crossing over fro AC Milan last week and this was just his second game.

But it had all begun very well for Los Blancos when Cristiano Ronaldo displayed his Ballon d’Or award to the fans while James Rodriguez, Sergio Ramos and Toni Kroos are showed off their trophies for making FIFA’s XI for 2014.

And the fans would have been shocked when Torres gave their neighbours the lead with fans barely on their seats.

Antoine Griezmann went past the defenders before locating Torres, who slid the ball beyond Keylor Navas.

Ronaldo drew a save from Jan Oblak in the 17th minute before Ramos headed the home team level on 19 minutes.

Real Madrid almost added a second through Ronaldo but Mario Suarez cleared his goal-bound effort. They had a penalty appeal as the first half wound down but referee waved play on.

And just as it happened in the first half, Torres was on hand to give La Liga’s defending champions another lead.

And it was the same protagonists; Griezmann to Torres, to poke it between Navas’ legs.
Ronaldo equalised in the 55th minute when he headed home a Gareth Bale cross as the crowd roared the home team on.

But as much as Carlo Ancelotti urged on his team, there was no way back. Diego Simeone continues to get the better of his Real counterpart, having now won two and drawn two this season.
