Out of favour Super Eagles striker, Obafemi Martins, has emerged the winner of the Major Soccer League goal of the week award.

Martins won his league-best fifth MLS Goal of the Week award by a landslide, earning almost 62 per cent of the Week 29 vote for his stunning mid-range strike in the Seattle Sounders’ 4-2 win over Chivas USA.

The Nigerian forward scored the goal early in the first half, pulling the Sounders level after they fell behind to an Erick ‘Cubo’ Torres opener.

The strike was the first of Martins’ two tallies on the day.

The Sounders’ star has made quite the habit of collecting the Goal of the Week in 2014. He most recently claimed the accolade in Week 24.

He also won it in Weeks 7, 8 and 11.

It’s the second major award of the last two days for the former Inter Milan, Newcastle United and Wolsburg striker, who was voted the Etihad Airways Player of the Month for September on Thursday.

The Week 29 Goal of the Week Final Results are as follows:

Obafemi Martins (SEA) – 61.73%;
Lamar Neagle (SEA) – 16.53%;
Robbie Keane (LA) –12.45%;
Bonnie Garcia (HOU) – 7.73%; and
Gyasi Zardes (LA) – 1.56%.

Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has adamantly refused to call up the in-form forward to the Nigerian national team, insisting Martins should the younger strikers a chance in the team.
