Popular OAP, Toke Makinwa, has told her fans not to worry about the defamation lawsuit filed against her by Maje Ayida, her estranged husband. Toke, who recently toured London as part of activities to promote her book, ‘On Becoming’ thanked her fans for supporting with their resources and said she hoped the Maje lawsuit wouldn’t drain all her cash.

Maje is seeking N100m in damages in the defamation lawsuit filed at a Lagos high court over her account of their marriage in her revealing memoir.

Addressing the lawsuit in the new episode of her popular vlog series Toke’s Moments, she said her lawyers were handling the matter adding that she wasn’t bothered by what people were saying about the matter.

She said, “I felt really blessed to see the amount of people that turned up. (For the London tour) I feel bad asking people to buy ticket to London but pity me, pity me… we are hustling, there’s no money.

“And as you guys might have heard, there’s a lot going on in the news and the little that I have, let’s just hope I have it after a while, you know. For all the people that reached out to me, my lawyers are on it so I don’t think you guys have anything to worry about, that’s all I’m going to say.

“It is what it is. It’s going to be a very interesting year. I must say I don’t really feed into things that are out there about me. I don’t believe in public opinion. I think that people are going to have opinions regardless”.

Maje recently admitted that Toke Makinwa’s book hurt his brand immeasurably. “People tend to form a perception of you from what they read or hear about you. Having those kinds of things written about me and circulating in the public domain has definitely hurt my brand, though it’s hard to quantify the kind of impact it has had. However, I concentrate my energy on doing good work and letting it speak for me,” he said.
