Following a successful hand over and swearing in ceremony at the Eagle Square Abuja on Friday, May 29, 2015 the new president of Nigeria, General Muhammadu Buhari was summoned to deliver an inaugural speech.

In his speech, the new president made a couple of promises of what his government intends to do for the general progress of the nation.

He also thanked the former President Goodluck Jonathan for his sportsmanship by conceding defeat before the final results of the general elections were called by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

He said, “I will like to thank President Goodluck Jonathan for setting an example that Nigerians are proud of.”

Additionally, he said, “I belong to everyone and I belong to nobody.”

He further reinstated the resolve of the government to do it’s best to tackle the insurgency meted out by the Boko Haram Islamist extremists.

“Boko Haram is a mindless and Godless group who are as far away from Islam as one can think.

“Daunting as the task may be, it is not insurmountable,” he added.

Prominent among his other promises are, “We will guard against every form of human right violation.

“Gross corruption even at the Local Government level shall be checked.

“Boko Haram is not the only security threat we are confronted with. Armed robbery and kidnapping will also be tackled.
“We will do all it takes to rescue our Chibok Girls and to rescue them alive.

“As ever, I am ready to listen to the grievances of Nigerians.”
