The just concluded MTV Africa Music Awards 2015, that held at the International Conference Center in Durban, South Africa, is causing some sort of despair in the Entertainment industry.
In the course of Basket Mouth’s Uncensored show this week, in Houston, Texas, he said he wondered why D’banj, Nigerian harmonica player, was nominated for 2015 MTV Evolution award.
The world-class comedian, said he doesn’t know why D’banj won the award. He went further to say he also wondered how Davido, beat Wizkid, the Ojuelegba crooner for best male artist of the year.
He said:
“I respected the first award I was nominated for, I really love the fact that I was nominated. Technically, I do not look at awards to judge how much I’m good. I mean the number of awards I receive doesn’t reveal my strength and capability.”
“You all seated here are my award. For the fact that you guys are coming to watch me, I got this much award. What could I possibly ask for; like around the world, you guys are awesome,” he added.
“When the awards were being given out, P’Square, won like 2 awards, best duo, best this and that…” he continued. “ D’Banj won… I don’t know why. I still can’t figure out why he won that award.”
At this point, the amused crowd bursted into laughter, then he continued.
“Davido won above WizKid, which is somewhat strange and bizarre, but it’s allowed… It’s allowed,” he noted.
He concluded his discourse on the awards facet by saying:
“Nigerian music is the best in Africa, in the world in short. This is our award and no one is taking it from us.”
