APC National Secretariat Declares Ondo Primaries Legitimate

The national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared the legitimacy of the primaries held in Ondo state on September 4.

Sahara Reporters is reports that the party’s secretariat confirmed the party’s stand in a statement issued on Friday, September 23 and signed by its national secretary, Mai Mala Buni.

The party said reports that its chairman, John Odigie Oyegun had overruled the National Working Committee (NWC) which said the elections were legitimate on Thursday, September 22, were not true.

The APC secretariat noted that the decision to declare the primaries legitimate was arrived at “after careful and exhaustive deliberation. The minutes and rejection was confirmed by the NWC on Thursday, September 22, 2016.”

According to Sahara Reporters, the NWC had on September 20, 2016 rejected a controversial recommendation by the 2016 Ondo State APC Governorship Primary Election Appeal Committee to invalidate the primary.

The NWC rejected the recommendation on the grounds that it “was fundamentally and fatally flawed.”

Supporting the NWC, the APC secretariat, in today’s statement, accused the committee of contradicting itself “when it admitted that the Primary Election Committee substantially complied with the rules guiding the process but still proceeded to recommend the nullification of the Primary election.”

Meanwhile, crisis is brewing in the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governorship candidate of the party’s in the Ondo governorship primary election have rejected Rotimi Akeredolu as its flag bearer in the next governorship election.

Speaking at a press conference in Akure, Olusola Oke, Robert Boroffice and Olusegun Abraham said the party leadership had chosen to cover “corruption and irregularities”.
